Gary Potts

Gary Potts was the former chief of the Temagami First Nation and the Teme-Augama Anishnabai in Temagami, Ontario, Canada. He was a leader of the Red Squirrel Road blockades in 1988-1989,[1] which were a part of Temagami's struggle to protect their ancestral lands. After being overwhelmed in the Supreme Court of Canada and having fired Dr. Bruce Clark who was a lawyer for the Temagami First Nation throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Gary Potts lost his popularity with people of Bear Island and since then never has been chosen as a chief. Gary Potts currently lives on the 1.8-square-mile (4.7 km2) Bear island.[1]
